Can on a .22 pistol???

Postby bullittcounty on Thu Jul 16, 2009 8:47 pm

I was thinking of getting a can on a .22 pistol. I have a Ruger Mark 3 Slabside, but it is not threaded. How much trouble is it to thread a Ruger?

I notice Keene's in Bardstown, KY sells cans are there any you recommend or should stay away from?

My other thought was to outfit my Ruger 10/22....

What set ups do you suggest?

Try one of the Pac-Lite barrel/receiver setups - super lightweight and very cool!

You can have almost any barrel threaded and if having the front site moved isn't needed then it usually runs well below $100. Make absolutely sure that whoever does the work threads it concentric to the bore. If they just turn down the barrel and thread it there is the possibility of baffle strikes.

If it were me I would go with the Yankee Hill Mite or the Tactical Innovations Tac65. Both cans can be had for $200 or so and both can be disassembled for cleaning. There are pricier cans but you can't go wrong with either of these. I've seen and shot lots of Gemtech Outback II but they didn't perform any better than the YHM or the Tac65.

Where is the best place to purchase or to handle the paperwork around Louisville?

Keene's is the only one I know of and his cans were $399 I believe. I talked to a smith about doing my barrels and he mentioned a can that you can take apart for cleaning.

Thanks for the help so far......

I vote Tac 65. just under 6 inches long. 1 inch diameter, 4.1 ounces. I consider it the blue ribbon baby in this category.

As far as your 10/22, Tactical Innovations also sells the threaded drop in barrels for like $125. Those 22s are fun, but remember, it is just a 22. Easy to drop a bunch of money into them... Buddy went with the Tactical Solutions fluted threaded... before he was finished, he had replaced the stock, dropped a volquartsen trigger group in it, added an EOtech, and then wondered where his debit card balance went.

Congratulations on the purchase.

Guess I'd better get my Form 4 in the mail so I can be ahead of you in line. My can got here from Oklahoma and I just picked up the Form 4 from my dealer so it looks like we'll be waiting together. We should form a support group. ;)

Amen to that.

I am beginning to realize that the can and stamp are the cheapest part of this deal. I would also like to buy a Tactical Solutions Threaded Barrel for my 10/22 + Hogue stock and Ruger Pistol. Then the $5.50 a box ammo which I have only found 100 rds. :D

My Form 4 came in today for my SWR HEMS2 can. Three months door to door on a Trust transfer. I bought a Yankee Hill Mite a couple of weeks ago for my Sig Mosquito so maybe it will be back in time for Valentine's Day :D
